Roger has worked in ICT for many years and
has a strong commercial background having worked for some of the leading
blue chip companies, mainly in the telecommunications industry.
As both a senior business manager and
consultant he has been responsible for steering IT groups and
organisations through significant culture change and business
development.
In the early 90s he was a member of a Board
responsible for selling and delivering large network solutions to the UK
Government.
In 1994 he was heavily involved in business
development as an executive director of a company specialising in IT
systems for the leisure industry.
He was appointed Director
of the Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council Bioscience IT Service
in 1996 and responsible for providing
strategic advice and guidance to the Board of Directors as well as
providing the BBSRC wide area network service linked to the JANET
service, and other associated ICT support services to the
BBSRC
sponsored institutes and
external customers.
In 2002, he was
nominated to The JNT Association (JANET-UK) Board as a non executive
director by the Office of Science & Innovation to represent OSI and the eight UK Research Councils.
In October 2010 he was nominated to the
Board
for a second term by the
Research Councils Executive Group.
